BC Highway Patrol

BC Highway Patrol is seeing a spike in excessive speeders as the weather improves, and officers want to remind motorists that police are stepping up efforts to have everyone slow down and stay safe.
A small group of BC Highway Patrol officers working on Sunday, April 13, impounded 16 excessive speeders, says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. Highway #91 around the Alex Fraser Bridge accounted for 11 of those impounds. That’s way too many. If this level of speeding continues, it will lead to tragedy.

Other locations where BC Highway Patrol caught excessive speeders on the weekend included Highway #99 in Delta and Highway #1 near Gagliardi, Burnaby. Speeds ranged anywhere between 45 km/h and 80 km/h over the limit.
These numbers don’t even include the tickets are officers were writing for people speeding less than 40 km/h over the limit, says Corporal McLaughlin. We would much rather you slow down and avoid us altogether, but be warned that there will be consequences for anyone who does not take speed limits seriously.
